Hi Margaret, I've noticed that you've already gotten several replies advising you about telnet and ssh clients run from a PC to access the Unix/Linux platform. And these are fine examples of ASCII-based terminal-emulation software that works extremely with JAWS. There are other such applications that can be run from the PC so JAWS can read the resulting screen information to you. But, you might find that your new employer is also using GUI-based applications on the Unix/Linux side. In this case you might want to consider Hummingbird or PCXWare -- these are X-emulation clients that allow a user to access the GUI interfaces available on Linux/Unix platforms from the PC as local to that PC. Again, this will allow you to employ JAWS as your screen reader on the PC while accessing the Unix/Linux systems. Be warned though that you may run into some very difficult applications that will not work well with this configuration, it's just the nature of the beast. However, the Unix/Linux OS will allow you to usually come up with "work around" that will let you do your job quite well. The other alternative is to look into -- as advised in an earlier reply -- the Linux screen reading products although I know very little about these and how well or poorly they work. Good luck (and do please keep us posted on your results), ------------ Bill Gallik E-Mail: wfgallik@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -- To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
