Mike-
I just had a similar problem. Somehow a checked item in the control panel got
changed. If you have sighted help, try going to the control panel in the
windows start menu. Arrow down to the "sounds and audio devices" submenu and
press enter. Use control+tab to get to the "audio" menu page and /or the
"voices" menu page. In the audio menu, the first tab item is "sound playback
default device" or in the voices menu "voice playback default device". Arrow
down under each of these items and make sure your installed audio driver is
still selected. In my case, this is the first item on the list, but somehow ,
the second listing, the "modem #1 line device"had become selected. Changing
that selection resolved the problem for me. The problem was apparently
triggered after an automatic update or installation of Skype--we are uncertain
which was the trigger.

  Mike,

I had that happen to me and I had to get a sighted person to go in to the
windows volume controls and uncheck a muted check box.

The computer sounds are there, but jaws is not. It comes up fine, on the
screen. That is, sighted people can see it, but I just can't hear it. As
for running jaws first, i have that disabled, so it won't come up when my
daughter starts it up.

Do you have any sounds coming out of the speakers?

Maybe the volume has been muted.

Hi folks. I've encountered a very weird problem with jaws. I'be been
using jaws version 8.0 on my daughter's computer, but for some reason, now,
when it comes up, no speech at all. I've looked at the settings, and as far as
I can tell, it seems to be right. I've tried reinstalling 8.0, but it
won't let me do that, giving me a message asking for my authorization disk.
The authorization is up to date on there. Anyone ever had such a problem
as this?
