I looked on the main page and couldn't find the zip file. Is it there yet?

Subject: Spybot 1.3 Automation files...

Jay Mendham sent me some information on running spybot with command line
switches. What this means is that it requires no user interaction. You
basically execute a batch file and it runs the spybot program and performs
the scan and removes all the items automatically. I have placed a link on
the main page at jfwlite to download the zip file containing his files.
Below is his message which explains the files you will find in the zip file.
Let me briefly summarize the minumum you need to do. Extract the file
autorun.bat to the folder C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy. Now
you could just enter on the autorun.bat file from this folder. Or extract
the file Spybot Autorun.lnk to your desktop to have a desktop shortcut to
execute the batch file. So if you have complete confidence in spybot smile
and you don't care to see the list of what it finds and you trust it to go
ahead and remove them all, you might wish to use this method. When the
process is finished, you can go to your log folder (on my system
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search &
Destroy\Logs and look at the log and txt file for that scan to see what it
found and what it removed.

Hi Debbie,

I've been reading the messages in the JFW list regarding Spybot 1.3 and
noticed that you've offered a new script to help in the use of the program.
I've downloaded and tried your script, (many thanks for the work) and find
it operates as you described in your message.

What I've been doing recently is allowing Spybot to run in automated mode
and thus can do other things on my system while Spybot is running. I find
that allowing it to fix anything it finds works quite well and if something
is removed that I don't like, I can always go back into the program and
restore that item if necessary. So far, I've never had to do this as
everything that has been removed automatically is what I would have selected
to remove anyway.

Attached to this message is an archive containing the files that I'm
currently using for this automated process. If you haven't experimented
with the command line switches, you may be interested in doing so. I'll
describe how I have my system set up in the hope that it may be of interest
to you and that you may wish to post these batch files on your JFW Lite
site.

The first file you'll see is my "autorun.bat".
Once Spybot has been installed, I place this batch file in the same
directory where Spybot was installed. When it's run, it will open the spybot
program, check for any available updates and automatically download and
update the program. It will then do a full system scan, then present a
screen where it tells me how many items it's found. There is an OK button
that screen. When I select the OK button, all of the found items are
removed and the program terminates, dropping me back where I was at the
initiation of my batch file. This process runs quickly and efficiently
without any problems. I've been using this method since installing Spybot
1.3 when it was first introduced with no problems at all.

The next file is my "installer.bat" file.
This file is only run once.
When Spybot 1.3 is first downloaded, if this batch file is run from the same
folder where the spybot installation file is, it will install the program,
including the blind and regular icons on the desktop, without any
intervention on the part of the user. Just execute the batch file and the
program will be installed into it's default folders without any problems.
This is done almost instantly and requires no help from the user.

The next item is my short cut that I leave on my desktop. This activates my
autorun.bat file in the Spybot folder.

The last item is the listing of all of the available command line switches
that spybot 1.3 allows. If you haven't seen this yet, you may find it
interesting.

I hope this information proves of some value or interest to you. Please feel
free to offer it on your site if you feel so inclined.

Jay
