Hi there,
From Vista (using Narrator, press Windows Key, type Personalization and
press Enter. This should launch Personalization Control Panel. Then go to
Window Color and Appearance and press Enter. Change the scheme to Windows
Classic. Then press Enter. Back at Personalization, go to Theme and press
Enter. At the Theme dialog, select Windows Classic and press Enter. Then
press Alt+F4 to cloase Personalization Control Panel.
Cheers,
Joseph

OK, appologies everyone as I know this has been posted already, but I'm
useless at finding old messages.

Please could someone post the guidelines for what to do with Vista prior to
installing JAWS on a Vista machine i.e. setting things such as graphics to
custom or whatever.

Also, I've seen mention of patches on here lately, is downloading the newest
update from Freedom Scientific on the downloads page sufficient.

Thanks in advance, and appologies for covering this old ground again.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Are you saying that, if I
would like to turn off Jaws speaking to announce RSS feeds, I switch to a
British browser called Internet Explorer 3? All I wanted to do was switch
off Jaws speaking that page element, something I expected could be done in
Configuration Manager because it was recognized as something you might
wish
to toggle off and on and thus included in the Insert V temporary verbosity
settings menu. If this will involve installing another browser and thus
permanently disabling this feature, I'm not sure I want to go that far. I
might someday want to learn how to avail myself of RSS feeds. Just not
right
now.

Or if I misunderstood you, please explain. Thanks.

Another source for you to check that is simple to configure is the U.K.'s
browser called WEB IE3. Which is free and very JAWS friendly and simple
interchange for RSS feeds.

Hi Yardbird and list,
Just a clarification: now I understand what Yardbird wants to configure.
RSS Feeds option is only availible under Internet Explorer 7.0 (both on XP
and Vista). This option is configured through Internet Explerer (I've
mentioned it on my Vista podcast number 4). You'll need to go to
Toolst/Internet Options/Content Page/RSS Feeds and change the settings.
Cheers,
Joseph

Joseph,
Whoops. this setting sounds as if it might be available only in
IE 7. Is
that true? Oh, well. I'm not in the mood to start changing
browsers right
now. don't have the time and energy to concentrate. Maybe soon.

As far as the name goes, that's a long story. For another time.

Hi Daniel (if it is your real name after all),
It is not a JAWS issue. What you'll need to do is go to Internet
Options from Tools Menu, then go to Content Page then RSS Feeds
and turn it off. Or go to Favorites Center and make sure that it
is turned off.
Cheers,
Joseph

I'm afraid I checked those, also, as carefully as I could, and
found no

Couple more dialogs to check are:

* Advanced Options

Hello Joseph,
Please reread my message. I'm fully aware of this. What I am
asking in my
inquiry is if anyone knows which item on the Configuration
Manager Settings
menu this item can be found. Thanks very much.

Hi there,
Yes, you are correct: the Vervosity Dialog mirrors Config Manager
(that's another story). The changes made in Config Manager is
permanent, whereas settings made from Vervosity Dialog is
temporary.

Joseph

Jerry,
thanks, but I'm still using IE 6. The other thing that occurs to
me is that,
almost without exception, if an adjustment is offered on that
Insert V
context verbosity menu, it's usually represented by a setting you
can make
within Configuration Manager. Maybe I'm wrong to assume that
about this
particular item, but that's what I was thinking.

In I.E. 7, go to tools, internet options, control tab to the
content
page, tab down to the feed settttings buttton and press it. Then
you can
turn off the sound and I am unsure about the feed reading view
option.
Perhaps this is a step in the right direction.

I want the RSS announcements to stop on all Web pages I visit. I
know
you
can toggle them not to speak, site by site, using the Insert V
menu. But
where in configuration Manager can you set Jaws that way
permanently and
globally? I've just been looking through HTML options, on all the
tabs,
but
no luck. Same with the Verbosity settings menu item. where
should I have
looked?
