Dave,I would certainly like to hear from Mac users who perform office work with their computers. The last time I asked Mac users about Microsoft Office and Voiceover, it was a no go. Are there accessible applications on the Mac that are fully compatible with MS Office applications? If not, I would have to stay with JAWS or another major screen reader if I were doing office work and needed to share files with colleagues.

Gary, Good point. However I'll bet there are more than a few MAC users who would take umbrage with your assessment of Apple's slant toward games, browsing, music, etc. Let's see what happens. Oh, and I'd not take seriously the good preacher who made that prediction. We'll just have to wait until he predicts and gets it right. In the meantimeI'll just keep buying lottery tickets. You may even do well if you are working foryourself and can pick from the software that is accessible with Voiceover onthe Mac. However, if you are seeking public employment, you most likely will be using a computer running Windows and will need one of the major screen readers to be productive in a job. I've listened to a number of podcasts about the Mac and Voiceover, but Ihaven't heard any that deal with office work, doing complex word processing or working with spreadsheets. If you know of any such demonstrations of theMac doing this type of work, let me know. Since I'm happily retired, I could probably make the switch to a Mac and leave Windows and expensive screen readers behind, but if I wanted to be employed in most of the available jobs using a computer, I don't think I'd be doing any switching until Apple can claim more than 50 percent of the computers in use. That seems to me to be about as likely as the next prediction of the end of the world coming true. Goodbye Microsoft and good riddance Freedom SF.I'm still staying around on the list though so I can help/advise those whoare still using jaws. -----Original Message-----From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On BehalfOf Alan Dicey Sent: 23 May 2011 23:09 To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: SMA's and Ordering new Versions of JAWS Dear Dave, Well, I hear you, and you are absolutely correct!Yes, I skipped Version 10 also, well I mean I threw the unopened CD mailerinto a box on top of my closet! LOL! I liked Version 9 fine, and to be honest, I have not had a bit of problems with Version 11. Thanks again! Cynically speaking (as I'm always reluctant to do) each new version will have new bugs and some old bugs remaining, ad infinitum . And in case you're not aware, failure to renew an SMA before a major version comes out will cost you a whole heck of a lot more money. I'll let otherchime in on their experience. My advice is to purchase the SMA for 12 and13 and wait for 13. I skipped version 10, for example, as it made me ill. I suppose I need to look at getting JAWS 12, but since I do not have any more SMA's, and I am hoping they will get all the bugs out of that version before I purchase it, well I will wait a bit more!Besides, I understand that the "virtual ribbon" is not a total "fix", itonly helps out a bit, is that correct? Wow, I have been using the JAWS Menu bars since 1999, with JAWS 3.3!And although I feel I am making a little progress getting the hang of it,I see it will be a slow learning curb! A completely different thing! Thanks again!
