Reading Paragraph Indents

Hi List,
Another embarrasing question, but someone else asked a similar reading question
today. How exactly does one read where a paragraph indent is? I know where
the beginning of the paragraph is by using a control down arrow, as well as
hearing a blank for the space between the paragraphs, but what I want to know
if, one, if the new paragraph starts with an indent and, two, how big the
indent is e.g. .5 inches, one inch.
