If that's anything like other versions of windows, you're in the wrong 
place, you don't go to the recording tab for that in there, usually you'd 
just hit enter on the volume thing in your system tray if you have one, 
other wise it's probably in entertainment under volume control maybe in 
accessories in the start menu programs?  I've never used ME was warned 
otherwise but 98 and XP are that way so hopefully that helps you.
