I have so many dictionary entries that not merging would mean the loss of a huge amount of work. It's true that at least one of the most experienced FS tech support staff advises against merging, which may have caused problems for me with a long-ago upgrade. However, merge has worked nicely for me the past few versions. I suggest this. If you install a new version and experience problems that might be attributable to a merge, simply uninstall and start again. After all, it doesn't take long. ----- Original Message ----- From: G.W. Cox That's just ducky! The last time I took a problem to tech support, he asked if I had had the problem with Jaws 8. After I told him no, he asked if I had run merge. I said that I had heard it was better to keep a "clean" install. He said something like he had never heard that and instructed me to do the merge. The problem went away. I say this not to refute you, Gary, but have to wonder what the truth is. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gary King To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, July 14, 2008 10:07 AM Subject: Re: Question Regarding Quela Katherine, I wouldn't use the Merge feature under any circumstances. One of the questions FS tech support asked me when I was having a problem with JFW was, "Did you use Merge? My answer was that I never use Merge because of problems it has caused other users in the past.
