Hi,

I have this display at work and wanted a chance to work with it before
answering this question. I find that my display is reacting within no more
than a second and I doubt it is that long. Given that, I think you should
call your service provider and discuss the problem with them. My office
purchased mine from Perkins. You might try reinstalling the driver but I
kind of doubt that is the problem. Good luck, Linda

Subject: Panning with Seika braille display

Hello everyone.

I recently acquired a Seika 40-cell uSB display here at work, and am
generally rather pleased at being able to reduce reliance on a voice
synthesiser.
However I've noticed something that puts a bit of a damper on my
enthusiasm here. The display is, as I mentioned, a 40-cell model,
which means that a line of braille usually approximates about half a
line of text on the display screen. I can't use the down key to move
forward, obviously, because then I'd miss half the line. The "panning"
buttons on the braille display let me see one half or the other of a
line of text, however when panning across a line this way I notice an
annoying lag of about one and a half seconds before the display
changes. It's interesting that when I type into the keyboard, use the
arrow keys, etc, the display changes instantly, but pressing keys on
the display itself results in this lag. I'm used to zipping through
braille, even, for example, on a Braille Note, and would very much
like to get rid of this issue so I can read at a proper pace.
Any ideas? Maybe a way I can re-map the "panning" keys to unused keys
on the computer keyboard, since despite the display's obvious ability
to receive input from the computer instantly there seems to be some
inherent sluggishness in response when operating display controls,
which I suppose makes a sort of irritating communication sense (double
passing, I guess you might call it). Alternatively, simply a way I can
speed things up, since I would like to be able to use those display
controls as it's more convenient than resting a hand on the keyboard
constantly and using "spare" keys that I don't really have at my
disposal?

I hope I've communicated my issue with a reasonable amount of
eloquence. Not sure how many braille users are on this list as I
seldom see it talked about, but I'd really appreciate some helpful
suggestions.
Thanks a lot.

Jm
