PDF file with JAWS

I have a PDF file written in columns, and I can't get JAWS to read it
correctly. I'm using JAWS 5.1. How can I arrange the document to read one
column at a time or change the arrangement of the pages? I tried converting
it to a text document, and that made no difference. Thanks.
