Here is how I select a name from my address book to send a message to.
start a new message and press alt+t and then r to get into the tools menu
and the recipiants dialog, tab to the list and press enter on the name you
want, tab to ok and press space or enter or choose either the to, cc or bcc
buttons without pressing enter on the address and press space or enter on
ok.
