Linktha,

Open Norton anti-virus.

Press alt-o for options.

There should be a frame with four tables with a list of basic options at the
top and corresponding checkboxes below it in the bottom table.

In the four tables, the top one is System, and has options like auto-protect,
script-blocking, etc. The second table is titled Internet, and the first
option in mine is e-mail. I can press enter on it, even though JFW does not
indicate it as a link and activate the various checkboxes associated with
e-mail scanning. If enter doesn't work for you, try routing JFW to PC cursor
and left-click with the mouse emulation key.

Now, in the fourth table, you will have various e-mail options. The table is
entitled "What to Scan". You will or should see the following:

Scan Incoming E-mail (recommended)

Scan Outgoing E-mail.

How to Respond When a Virus is Found:

Here there are five radio buttons, as follows:
1.  Automatically repair the infected file (recommended);
2. Ask me what to do;
3. Repair then quarantine if unsuccessful;
4. Repair then silently quarantine if unsuccessful; and
5. Repair then silently delete if unsuccessful.

I've found that if you set it to the recommended option, there will be a
dialog if it finds an infected file. This may cause the sending of incoming
e-mails to be suspended while it waits for you to reply and the server may
time out. Therefore, I've selected the fourth option to repair and silently
quarantine if unsuccessful. By doing this, there are no dialogs while e-mail
is being downloaded.

I don't have it scan outgoing e-mails, since I believe with scanning incoming
e-mails and having script-blocking enabled insures that I have a virus-free
machine.

hth,
Steve
