MSN Messenger and Emoticons

Hi,

I'm using JAWS 4.5 and MSN Messenger 5.

When cursoring through the list of online contacts JAWS doesn't read
emoticons as emoticons (so it says colon left paren or whatever). When in a
conversation and the other person is typing JAWS says so and so is typing a
message, and does say the emoticon if they have one as part of their screen
name. Yet once they've written the message JAWS says so and so, without
saying the emoticons and just saying the punctuation again, says such and
such.

I hope that makes sense!

So I was wondering if this is how JAWS is supposed to work? Since it reads
the emoticons while they are actually typing a message, how come it's not
reading them in the list of contacts or once they have written a message?

Catherine
