Jaws with Victor reader

When I use the Victor reader, which I use when reading Bookshare books,
Jaws gets really ssluggish, no matter what version.
What appears to happen is that the book takes a year to load and Jaws is
silent until it finishes.
My question is whether this is a Jaws issue or not?
Can't be memory, since I've got 1.5 gig in RAM.
Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
