Well, I think that one of the reasons why some sites aren't as accessible as they arguably should be is the fact that, while the standards exist, there seems to be a feeling that such standards would limit the creativity of web developers. the thing is that we're living at a time when web accessibility has never been better. sure there are a few issues out there, but a lot of it depends on how well your access technology interacts with the web environment and also how well you know said technology. With regards to the Facebook vs. blink Nation thing, I, for one, do not get that much chance to get to know other blind ppl, since I live in a very rural area with no public transportation to allow me to get out more. But I do still use Myspace and Facebook b/c I have a lot of sighted friends with whom I keep in touch. So, it's not so much an either-or but a both-and situation for a lot of us. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Holdstock" <peterholdstock@xxxxxxx>

I'm sure that is true, but is it not also true that most blind people would rather the every day sites are more accessible as then there is much chance of meeting people with things you have in common. I don't necessarily always want to socialise with blind people. Aren't blind people starting to have their own sites more and more because Facebook etc isn't that accessible. Aren't we heading in the direction then of people with disabilities heading away from intergrating with society rather than being more involved in it?I'm not questioning you, I'm just interested in peoples views on this! Perhaps if we all email at the same time it will let them see the number of blind people who wish to use the service.I'd be interested to know whether the UK Disability Discrimination Act covers Facebook i.e. do Facebook have a UK based office. If so I assume legally they should be making it more accessible. I wonder whether there would be any have a go solicitors out there who would love to get known for taking on Facebook.Peter -------------------------------------------------- From: "Shane W" <shane-jfw@xxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2008 5:55 PM To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Jaws and Facebook linksOn Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 10:05:50PM -0400, Marc Rocheleau wrote:I was just wondering if anyone else was having trouble accessing the "friends" and "inbox" links on facebookHi, Yeah, same problem for me last night. I got around the inbox one though. Activate the inbox link, then route jaws to pc and just below the inbox is text saying "view message" Left clicking that seems to bring you to the inbox. I haven't tried friends yet. This new FaceBook is more trouble than it's worth.
