Jaws 8 and the desk top

After I installed jaws 8 on my windows xp home computer with 512 ram and a 120
gig hard drive the problems started. When I'd go to the desk top Jaws 8
wouldn't read any of the icons, but if I pressed lets say m for ms word it
would open.I also noticed that when I'd open one of my documents again jaws 8
wouldn't read any of the text. I checked my display settings and all is correct
there. The two other versions of jaws being version 7 and 7.1 work just fine.
