Jaws 5.1 problem

When using Jaws 5.1 on my win. 98SE machine I'm getting just letters in my
program menu. I remember something like this in the past. I think it has
something to do with the status menu, but not sure. Also if I go into my
documents again there are some strange letters there.Anyone out there that
can give me some help with this. I should mention that If I switch to Jaws
5.0 all is fine. Thanks for any help,
