Make sure that in the layout screen under the view menu you have the message list to display one line as by default it's set to auto or 2 and JAWS doesn't seem to like it.

Hi:I labelled the graphic symbol as unread but it does not read it as I arrow through the emails. However if I switch to the jaws cursor, then it does say unread.
