Please, excuse my ignorance but does one have to download ITUNES from some
web site prior to connecting the Touch.
It was my impressions that simply connecting the Touch would initiate that
whole process of downloading the program and connecting via some wizard.

Do you have the latest version of iTunes installed? It's 9.2. Have you
tried launching iTunes and then plugging in the iPod Touch to see if iTunes
will recognize it? Strangely enough, I sometimes get a dialog pop up when I
plug in my iPod Touch that calls it a camera. Strange, because it doesn't
have a camera, just the iPhone roots of the iPod software showing up I
guess.
