Can you please tell me what version of Bearshare you are using? I
downloaded the latest version (version 6) and it doesn't seem to be
accessible with jaws at all. I tried the hot keys you suggested, but I just
can't seem to get it to work.

Bearshare is great. Here are some hot keys for it with JAWS
Bear Share Lite Keyboard Shortcuts
ctrl 1: search, enter your search and enter.
f6 within search, switches between edit field where you enter search terms
and the list of results.
Once you are on a file you want press control D to download.
ctrl 2: view the status of downloads
ctrl 3: view status of uploads
ctrl 4: library
