JAWS and Family Tree Maker

Hi all. I'm a newby to this list. myself and a friend are interested in doing
some family history research.
Can anyone tell me if Family Tree Maker V8 is compatible with JAWS? I noticed
in the JAWS help topics that versions 7.0 and 7.5 are supported but I don't
want to shell out the cash just to find the interface has been totally
re-designed and no longer useable with a screen reader.
I'd be happy to have any tips or tricks on Family Tree maker or any other
family history software that could be used with JAWS versions 7.1 and/or V9.
