Thanks Gerald, but stopping and restartting Jaws, even rebooting did not change the behavior. I do not use Windows Media Player, by the way, but Winamp and other sound editors. It is very strange.

The Copy and Cut commands usually go silent after Windows Media Player has been launched. However, the functions still work the way they are supposed to. To restore speech to these commands, simply unload and restart JAWS.

I use Jaws 9 and xp Pro. Suddenly, yesterday, a control x and c no longer get Jaws to speak the words cut and copy. The function works, I can cut and copy all day, but neither command speaks anything. Interestingly, a control z for undo or v for paste says the proper words when executed. No changes that I am aware of were made to any scripts or other Jaws files. Any help would be muchly appreciated, DanAt 11:18 AM 2010/05/01 Saturday, you wrote: yes it does it often, and stops speaking and will not start speaking, I have to turn Pc off and reboot, but then Jaws will start talking as if life depended on it, non stop no key stroke will stop him not Control,, or both or control alt and del, nothing at all, I try to load up my Ocr to power down, and sshut down, I can force pc off but am never happy doing this, itgoes against the grain, I do escape and alt f 4, but after doing that a couple of times it asks do I want to turn Jaws off, normally on earlier versions only Insert and F4 turned jaws off any ideas wel come. I thought it was a problem with my computer, but am now thinking it's with Jaws 11. I'll wait to see if others are having the same problem and what they think. Brian ----- Original Message ----- From: Cal To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, April 30, 2010 8:14 PM Subject: JAWS losing focus I just put in a new hard drive and installed JAWS 11. If I step away from my computer for a short time and leave the focus on JAWS or any other program, when I come back I find that the focus has changed to a blank screen and I have to alt-tab back to the screen I was working on or want to get to. Any idea what might be causing this? I'm not even sure if it's a JAWS-related problem or not, but I never encountered this using lower versions of the program. PS: Thanks to those of you who have helped answer some of my other inane questions I posted during the past week. Although I can't write to you individually, your replies to my questions are sincerely appreciated and I think you for your time. -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.comJFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxTo unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.Archives located at: //www.freelists.org/archives/jfwAlternative archives located at: http://n2.nabble.com/JAWS-for-Windows-f2145279.htmlIf you have any concerns about the list, post received from the list, or the way the list is being run, do not post them to the list.
