I connected my DecTalk Express to my USB port using a serial-to-USB
converter cable. Works fine.

If you Google Dec talk express, you'll find a guy in Sacramento who makes a
USB version of the D T Exp. I think his company is called Axel or something
like that. If what he makes doesn't work with Vista, he'll know what does.
He is a very pleasant guy an likes to chat.

I got an external Triple Talk that could be used as a serial or a usb
synthasizer. It did not work with Vista. I think maybe the drivers might
have something to do with it. I don't know. I just know when I tried it, it
would not work with Vista.

God Bless,

Wren
