Dots 7 and 8 getting in the way

Hello, I have my Alva 3 series braille display hooked up. I'm trying to read
through a list of files to make sure they are written correctly. However,
the dots seven and eight are getting in the way of me reading properly. If I
hit control space on the file name, it becomes unselected, and the lower
dots disappear. I don't want to do that however, since I'd like to skim down
this list of several hundred files without those dots hindering my regular
reading. I've looked through everything in configuration manager using the
default configuration, unchecking eight dot braille, unchecking cursor
options and marking options, but those dots still show up. Is there a reason
that the display doesn't seem to be obeying the options I've chosen? It
seems to have taken everything else.
Thanks a lot.
Matthew
