Displaying column headings in tables on web pages?

Hi,

Is there a way to display the column heading in a table on a web page like 
in Excel?

I am using IE 6.0 and Jaws 5.0.

I have tried the following but it does not seem to read the heading of the 
column.
Read Current Column

C

The web page is in standard html as far as I know.
