Hannah,
If you're using a laptop, the very simplest way to mute JAWS is to press the
mute button to silence the sound output. Other than that you need to use the
other methods suggested earlier.

i am looking for a shortcut key which i can mute jaws. please note that i
dont mean insert+F4 which completely exits jaws and also not ctrl which only
interrupts the current statement. i mean a real pause or mute.
