Well, after being spooked by the AVG Free Edition's installation warning message yesterday enough to put off installing the latest update of the program and asking about the warning message here, and being sufficiently reassured by the responses I got that it wouldn't be suicidal to go ahead with the install, I did. Well, I was prepared to tolerate that message about a conflict with Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator coming up again a making me nervous despite everyone's reassurances, but, and check this out, the message didn't come up this time! The install program simply proceeded normally, and my updated AVG is now fully installed, up and running, and I just updated its virus definitions manually, just for the fun of it. I'll bet anything it will do the auto update in a few minutes, at the usual time, for which I see that it's still scheduled because, unlike other programs that require regular updating, such as AdAware, AVG doesn't ever notice that you're up to date and decline to download the same definition files again. It just does its thing. Then you have to fight feeling guilty and paranoid if you don't reboot yet again, wondering, hey maybe they added some vitally important new definition files in just the past fifteen minutes? Better not take a chance... Well, it's been fun so far. -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
