Hi Dave,

That's what I am using also, but with earlier versions of AVG, I didn't have to
alt tab after initializing AVG, and I don't remember having to route the cursor
to read the top portion of the screen. Also, in the past, I've had difficulty
using alt down arrow to access some of the combo boxes in AVG to change the
time and frequency of updates.

It's nothing insurmountable. Also, I remember that Freedom Scientific did some
updating ... I think with AVG version 7.5, because some JAWS users reported AVG
crashing when opening the program. *smile*

Blessings.

  Lynn,

What version AVG? I'm using 8.5 Free and it's very accessible with JAWS.

Two years ago, I contacted Freedom Scientific about problems using the AVG
interface with JAWS. They said they would look into it, and that's the way it
was left.

I still use AVG, but it is not as easy to modify or make schedule changes
as it used to be. It would be helpful if assistive technology companies took
ease of use more seriously. *smile*

    Blessings.

Pretty typical. Changing this is esoteric and would not get FS very
excited.

I'm still waiting for the instruction on how to modify the scripts, that
Shannon Hannah said she has, in a message dated 22 July.

Shannon, please post to the list. Your solution sounded intriguing.

This has been covered already, but I'll repeat it anyway. The
easiest way to change the JAWS start-up message is to use the Dicttionary
Manager. Follow these steps:
              1. Go to the JAWS Utilities menu and select Dictionary Manager.
              2. Hit Space on the Add... dialog to select the Add Dictionary
Definition dialog.
              3. In the Actual Word field, type "jaws for windows is ready."
exactly as it appears in quotes.
              4. In the Replacement Word field, type the phrase you would like
to hear instead. For example, you could type in something like, "Hurray!! JAWS
10 is good to go!!".
              5. If you wish, you can also add a sound to play along with the
phrase by choosing a sound from the list of provided sounds.
              6. Tab to Okay and hit Space.
              7. Close the Dictionary Manager, and reply with Yes when prompted
to save changes. Now, whenever you turn on your computer or launch JAWS
manually, you will hear the new phrase you just created instead of "JAWS for
Windows is Ready".

starts. When ever I get a new version I change the announcement to say what
version it is, the time, date and I have even added in a few other things. Like
Hello Shannon. I have the instructions on how to do this if you want I can send
them to you off list, just let me know.

does anyone know of a way to change what jaws says when
windows xp starts?

currently it says jaws for windows is ready.

can this be changed to a statement of my choice?
