Some of the cases where I have seen this were where jaws might speak window
names rather than object names. It seems like jaws prefers the name of the
window with focus, and some time's the corresponding object name,
especially with more recent software, is actually more informative.
Part of that mayjust be that jaws evolved years ago, before MSAA, and then
UIA came into existance, and the focus was on the window structure. . NVDA
doesn't have that legacy.
I don't know if there is a configuration option to compell jaws to give the
object name and value priority.
I'm guessing they have been reluctant to lean that way, given the number of
cases where developers don't bother to fill out the object information or,
if they do, they do it inconsistently.
So, I bet there are also cases, especially with older programs, where
jaws might actually do better than NVDA.
But, I do keep NVDA on my system because, it seems less likely to be made
speechless.
When jaws goes catatonic, I can usually bring up NVDA, and rescue things.
Not tangling yourself so deeply in the internals to develop an off screen
model seens to have it's protective advantages.
But, since that mechanism is on it's way to disappearing, maybe JAWS will
be less vulnerable.
As to whether Vispero is conscious of how their low priced, essentially
subsidized competitor is more reliable, I bet they are already painfully
aware of that, and rather concerned about it.

Octavian's comment below, which I've seen echoed now by a couple people on
this list over recent months, would suggest that people are discovering
instances/situations where NVDA is seemingly able to perform bettter "out of
box", than JAWS might do?
I'm just wondering:
(a.) If this is collectively thhought to be true, and
(b.) if so, whether there might be any unified/more effective way of
collating such scenarios, such that we might then alert FS to such a state
of affairs, with the view to hopefully inspiring them to put some serious
research and development time into addressing?
What do people think?

More exactly, JAWS wasn't speaking the selected text, or it used to speak
repeatedly the selected text if the whole line was selected. Maybe FS fixed
this.
