That did the trick. I just added in the JCF file and it cut out all the annoying tuype in text messages. Now it is nice and silent. That was driving me crazy on how to set it. Subject line isn't very relevant here any more I notice, <grin,> but, did you try out Soronel's other suggestion under Insert+J, options, basics, and the first field in here? which is, Tutor messages? set of radioButtons? I always set mine to, "announce custom messages only," here, which silences all that extra verbiage you really don't need, but presumably preserves the ability to speak any custom tutor messages one may wish to assign. Because in my view that's where the action is gunna be found, for your desired suppressions here. BTW, if you wanna do it in script-land, it's setting, at least in the default.jcf file of jaws 12, is to be found under a section called [OutputModes], which of course only exists in the custom default.jcf if user has specified any variants from the defaults for their respective settings in this section,) with a format that when set to the announce custom messages only, as I have it set, looks like this: TUTOR=2|2|2|Tutor Of course I am ignorant as to jcf Case-sensitivity, note the first Tutor is all in caps, and the last one only has it's first letter capitalized, nor do I know what the last Tutor after the vertical bar connotes! However I have divined that the 3 numeric settings here, are to stipulate this setting at the 3 verbosity levels, beginner, intermediate and advanced, Even though this doesn't seem to be offered in the front end user interface to the average user. I have tested it by altering the last number and in jaws 12.0.1186 anywayz, this does seem to work, confirming also what Sorenel said, that it's announcement can be combined with the verbosity level if desired through this backend method. I also haven't checked whether this is possible on a, per aplication basis, but suspect not, but I could well be wrong here. The setting in the factory default.jcf for jaws 12, (even though it seems to have jaws 11.0.xxx at the top of the jaws 12 jcf file, ahem, Which announces all the verbiage as per normal, looks like this: TUTOR=1|1|1|Tutor So I'm presuming here that 0 is radio button1 option, turn off all menu and control help, 1 denotes default behaviour of speaking stuff all the time, and 2, denotes setting custom messages only. And their 1st, second and third positions separated by the vertical bars, denotes which verbosity level each is set to. So, if you knew how to utilize those jcf read/write/set functions etc, you could probably fiddly diddly this on the fly within scripting functions eh. hth.
