Adrian:

This isn't only an issue with .xls files, but all files created by the user.

Locate the file, and make sure that it is highlighted.

1. Press ctrl+enter for properties
2. you will be told "general" "read only checked".
3. press "space to uncheck it.
4. press alt+a for "apply".
5. press tab a few time until you hear "ok" and press "enter" on it.

Hopefully that should sort you out.

Subject: [jaws-uk] xls problem

For a long while, I have been using the XLS file to enter my daily blood
chart for the hospital.

I don't know what has happened, but this morning I opened the file to enter
my results, and was given the message, [Read Only]. So it's now saving the
entries I am putting into this chart.

Please, can anyone help me to change the status of this file, so I can
continue writing in the information for the hospital?

Any help would be appreciated, with many thanks.
