Hi Dorothy, If your PC is talking too much, it might be worth trying the following, that is, if you haven't already. If Jaws is speaking every character as you type, which interferes with the flow of my typing rhythm, hold down the insert key then press the number two on the top row until you hear Jaws say words. Now Jaws will only say a full word when it detects that a word boundary has been reached. This is usually when a space or some punctuation is typed. There are three levels of verbosity available in Jaws, beginner, intermediate and advanced. Jaws is usually set to beginner when first installed. To change the verbosity temporarily, press insert+v and cursor down to user verbosity. Now press the space bar until you hear the setting you want then tab once and press enter on the close button. Both of the settings I have mentioned will be temporary but, if you would like to keep them, come back to the list and ask for details on how to make the changes permanent. I hope this helps, Phil Medway. ----- Original Message ----- From: "TIDDYogg" <oggy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, March 03, 2006 12:51 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Sorry about spelling With your machine that's talking too much... Get the Jaws window on the screen, using alt+tab a few times. Press alt to get the menu bar. It should start on the options menu so push the down arrow until you get to Voices... (This will now vary a bit depending on your Jaws version.) Find Global Adjustment On my version it's a sub-menu, so right arrow will open it.. Press Enter. Tab until you get a punctuation list box and down arrow to "some" or "none". Press Enter to get out of the menus, cross your fingers, and see what happens. ----- Original Message ----- From: "dorothy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" <User@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, March 03, 2006 9:58 AM Subject: [jaws-uk] Sorry about spelling Jaws did a wobbly the laptop suddenly powers up withal whoosh. Try getting some one to read the Manual in detail onto an audio tape getting used to it a bit at a time. I am cheating using a full keyboard gradually trying out the laptop keyboard. If you are on the move not easy to do this. I also wonder myself is getting the laptop up off the table top may help any ideas? I thought that maybe so small steel egg cups and the Ps mean the Function key important. a laptop on it..Would the metal interfere with the signal? Thanks Dorothy.
