Hi Amie.

there are 2 major problems with the SMA as it stands as I see it. firstly it
only works if people are informed about it. Sight & Sound, Blazie or any other
JAWS dealer should tell you about this. they don't always. A message could
come up about the sma at the point of installing JAWS to help with this.

Secondly, freedom scientific charge more for an SMA if you buy it after buying
JAWS. this is nothing but synical money grabbing. Yes money is certainly
required for research and development but I think if you are going to get a sma
it should cost the same whenever you buy it. The idea of buying 2 upgrades and
making a price saving on that is not in itself a bad one but it does need to be
handled rather more fairly. If I buy a sma now that version 11 has been
released, it should still take me as far as version 12 without me having to buy
an upgrade as well as a sma. yes I know the SMA will then go on as far as
version 13 but if i kept up the sma I would get upgrades as far as version 14
for less money. I really don't see why people should be penalised just because
they let an SMA lapse for a while

I have kept my own sma up so this is not a case of sour grapes.

Regards

Graham

Guessing I haven't, as this is all new to me. Sight And Sound haven't
mentioned this to me. Are the margins bigger for upgrades without an SMA? If
so, how boringly predictable.

Thanks for explaining.

Amie

Amie

That depends on whether you have a software maintenance agreement. If you have
and it still has an update, you will be able to download and install the latest
version free of charge. Of course nothing is really free as you will already in
effect have paid for it!

Does this mean that I can upgrade from JAWS 10 to 11 for free? I'm being told
11 will have extra support for some music tech' applications. Hoping I won't
have to buy JAWS again, in order to benefit from these.
