Hi George, if you're getting windows sounds OK it's not a sound card driver 
issue. What I would suggest is running SFC, in case any system files needed 
by your screenreader are damaged.
  If you put your windows cd into your cd drive. Go to your run box and type 
sfc /scannow and press enter. SFC will then check all your system files and 
replace any that are damaged.
  I realise you're running windows 7 and not XP, but I imagine SFC still 
works for Windows 7.
