David,
A quick way to flag a message is to tap the Insert key on its own. I
wonder if this may be how some of your messages became flagged? Tapping
Insert a second time doesn't clear the flag, unfortunately, it marks it
complete.

Why this should suddenly turn itself on I don't know, but what you need
to
do is press alt T for tools and then cursor down to follow up submenu.
Then
cursor right and press enter on clear flag to uncheck it.

i have turned my machine on this morning to find that in certain
messages on
my Outlook in-box that I am hearing from JAWS 9 'red flag'.
using office 2003 and AVG7 - also spamfighter.
any ideas?
