Your problem is with Jaws. You can set this to speak only complete words rather than a letter at a time. You can try this temporarily by pushing Jaws key + V then arrowing down to "Typing echo." Push space once to select "speak words"

Tab down to Execute.

Tiddy thanks, but I have tried everything, if it is a sludge day it is
like walking in snow with poor boots. Now take this reply I am using my
Desktop for this reply, however since my laptop lost its Wireless
connection yesterday I put it on just now. Connection is back it is sludgy
at this moment on both, the Toshiba laptop has nothing much on it now it
was put back to Factory settings. Additionally I did not put Lunar back on
it, if I tilt the screen I can just stand the glare. well if anything at
this moment it is rotten on both.

What depresses me is that having typed for so long due to poor handwriting I did not even use an eraser with my little Hermes portable. However if
I try the old one you know The quick brown fox, the one that uses all
letters in the . /alphabet it is so slow and I am turned into an
incompetant louse! Why do computers and spell checks go hand in hand? It
isnot possible not to have to use it. I know many will have seen my awful
spelling and I am trying but the computer seems to be on the spellcheck
Priority the typewriter did not. I have got rid of AVG now for a good
ant-virus. No difference. I think Windows must be doing a lot of
'house-keeping behind the scenes. There are different Processors on both
laptop and Desktop. I will try typing of connection and see if that helps
more However is there an average for computer typing? I mean for
typewriters 65 words per minute was no big deal, what is an average for a
computer in Word? If anyone can tell me I would love to know Regards
dorothy.

Dorothy, if you think the problem is due to downloads while on-line, why
not go off-line and see if this makes a difference. Could of course be
due to AVG or whatever running. This really causes Jaws to stutter on my
machine.

Thank you Dave I wonder if being on line makes a difference? I have
even
tried putting Lunar to sleep but seems not to make any difference other
than I cannot bear to look at screen I am listening more than Looking
and
did not put Lunar back on my revamped laptop which is almost empty. I
even
bought Kaspersky thinking it was AVG, on the whole I feel the laptop
Word
moves faster but may be imagination. Is there a maximum or average
typing
speed in Word do you know I do have windows updates set on Auto. Oh
well I
guess some days are good and others not. In this weather my internet
connection has gone and come back 4 times since yesterday.the telephone
has
held mercifully Touch wood
. now? Could it be the Processor.

Hi, you'll probably find it is slow when there's a virous scan or
windows
update download or something going on at the same time. All I can
suggest
is type away and let the computer catch up!

Cheers
Dave

Subject: [jaws-uk] Typing in Word slowness

Dear List
I sometimes feel typing in Ms Word is very sluggish, and it varies,
wonder if this happens to anyone else.

I am using Jaws 9 Office 2002 XP Home Lunar 6.
I think I try to cut down on programmes running,, and I do not
understand why it varies from day to day.

I often feel frustrated because when I could see to type I could move
at
65
words a minute. The sludginess is not in typing Emails. Is there
anything
in
Ms Word I can remove to speed it up?
Thanks Dorothy

Regards
Dorothy
