Hi Peter and List. Thanks for that recommendation. I've only tried
it once but it did work, so that's a very helpful solution but any
further thoughts on the issue will be gratefully received.
Also, I'm afraid to report that quitting Jaws and re-starting it
doesn't help with another problem that I'm having, which is that it's
not reading any of the virtual ribbons in Microsoft Word (even though
I've got that option ticked in Settings Center). When I press the alt
key, it says "Virtual Ribbon" but, rather than speaking the name of
the ribbon that it's on (usually the file menu by default), it just
says "blank" and does not say anything at all in response to the arrow
keys being pressed for navigation around the ribbons and sub-menus.
I'm still using Windows 7/Microsoft Word 2010 and I appreciate that
this version of Jaws is much more recent than Jaws 14.0. Does it only
work fully with more recent versions of software/operating systems or
is something that is easier to fix going on here?

Hi again everyone. Apologies for the stream of recent emails from me
and thanks so much for all of the help I've received.
I'm finding with Jaws 18 - and my fiancée has also found with Jaws 17
- that Jaws doesn't give an accurate readout of the number of
files/folders in any given location when using Windows Explorer. For
example, I just put 198 items in my Recycle Bin but it said there were
only 60. Furthermore, when I got to the 61st file (just to check I
hadn't exaggerated the number of deleted files) and did shift + tab
and tab, it said it was file 41 of 80 (obviously different to the
total number of files that it gave at the top of the list when I used
the same action). I then arrowed to the bottom of the list and it
said I was on file 59 of 59. So, is this just a coding error in
recent versions of Jaws or is there a setting or other action that I
can perform to make it speak the right info?
