I.E.8 has not yet been officially released by Microsoft, and has been going
through various beta phases and such like. If people wish to participate in
this kind of testing, they have to accept the fact that things can, and
often do, go wrong.
At the end of the day, do you really seriously think Microsoft will finally,
publicly release a product which prevents users from updating their systems?
