Here are a couple of ways to reply privately to the sender of the
message you are reading on a list such as this one:

First, and simplest is the JAWS Reply privately to sender
keystroke,
JAWS Key (usually insert) plus Shift "r." JAWS will say replying
privately to sender and either promptly place you in the message
body of your reply, or hang for a few seconds and say Cannot
address message and place you in the body of a message addressed
to the list, or promptly say Cannot obtain sender's address and
leave you in the message body of the message you want to reply
privately to.

I have noticed that on some lists, the JAWS reply privately to
sender keystroke works more reliably than on other lists and I
have absolutely no idea why!

OK so you tried the JAWS Reply Privately to Sender keystroke and
it didn't work. There is still hope!

Using your JAWS cursor, cursor up to the from: field of the
message you want to reply to and place the JAWS cursor on the
person's name or e-mail address. Now press the right-hand mouse
button.

To copy the person's name/address to the Windows Clipboard,
either cursor down to copy or type "y."

Then issue a reply command to your mail program, often control
plus "r." Back-tab to the to: field, delete the list address from
it and press control plus "V" to paste the name/address of the
sender of the message you are replying to then tab down to the
message body and write your reply.

It will go privately to them.

If you want to just send them a new message, not an actual reply,
instead of selecting "copy" on the menu the right-hand mouse
button gives you,
Select "Send Mail" and their name/address will be placed in the
to: field of a brand new message and you're placed in the message
body.

As with list mail, may I respectfully suggest you only quote
enough of any and all previous messages in your private reply to
maintain continuity of thought. Ideally you should sum up any
and all previous messages in a sentence or two, a brief paragraph
at the most then get on with your reply.

Just learned this JAWS cursor trick recently and one of these
days when I get around to reading the JAWS manual, will probably
learn all sorts of things it can do that I don't know about.

Oh have a look at the various options on the right-hand mouse
button's menu. They're pretty interesting!
