Hi,

Well, these are only my observations.

When I land on a bolded text and then use the next same type element command (S), Jaws jumps to the next bolded text. Problems with this approach are that you have to find the bolded text to start with, and, Jaws doesn't automatically read the new text it jumps to (at least in my experience). In any case, I find this way to be very clumsy and unreliable.

If the messages you're referring to are somehow identified, say with a bullet, then you can use the Jaws virtual find feature (Control F), key in a bullet character and then use the F3 key to jump between the messages. This is a much better way than the above, but guess what? I personally used to spend about 10 minutes every time I needed to key in a bullet character trying to remember how! :)

I'd say the use of headings on a web page is the most organised and neat way of making a web page very easy to navigate with a screen reader. absolutely the best way IMHO. As someone said, they don't want their site to be only easy to navigate using Jaws.

For more info on the Jaws navigation quick keys, see the topics navigation quick keys, elements and (miscellaneous elements, attributes, and features) in using the internet with Jaws section of the Jaws help files.

Cheers,
Amro

Subject: [jaws-uk] Finding specific text

Here's the scenario:
You access an html page contianing a number of messages, say 100. A few of these may concern you. It is possible that the page can be so designed that these relevant messages appear either in bold or italic text, or maybe with a bullet or other identifier.

Now, can Jaws recognise such things, to jump to them, just like it will jump to the next button, or next heading - can it jump to the next bit of bold text etc?

If I can get this answered before any such implementation it will be much appreciated, so any suggestions/help gratefully received.
