Andrew,

Thanks for all your help. I've figured out how to get the filtering
working server side, so all I need to do now is write the rules.
Thanks,
Tink.

Hi,

This is certainly doable using the copy command in IMAP, though you would be
limmited on what the filtering system gives you in the GUI.

I don't believe for example that Outlook lets you do this.

Andrew.

Andrew,

That's interesting. Do you know if it is possible to filter into the
folders on the server and retain a copy in the inbox simultaneously?
I should imagine that this is quite doable, but you've obviously got the
facts on this.

Hi,

IMAP filtering client side is uggly anyway because of the time taken in
finding out which messages are on the server, then having to move the
messages to the different folders. You would have a long period of not
being able to interact with the folders on the server, whilst the client was
moving mail around in folders. Whenever I use IMAP, I get a program server
side to do the filtering for me, so when I come into my Inbox, i have the
mail all ready and waiting. This is done via Procmail on Unix or through
Exchange (which is what we use now).

If your host has a Webmail program have you tried putting filters in that?
Some versions of Horde can be configured to manipulate Procmail filters
directly.

having said this, however, it still may be possible to filter into other
folders IMAP client side using OE, its just that I don't like the idea of
it, so have never done it.

Thanks.
Andrew.

Andrew,

My mistake, it's not that OE doesn't support IMAP, but rather that
you can't filter emails from an IMAP account into different folders on the
server. At least, I believe this is the case, if I'm wrong, I'd be delighted
to find out.

Hi,

For ages Outlook Express was better at supporting IMAP than Outlook was.
OE allows for several IMAP accounts under one identity, each of them showing
up as its own mailbox. You also have local folders, and you can drag and
drop messages from one mailbox into another. Only Outlook 2003 has really
improved on this situation - any earlier version of Outlook won't work, but
OE version 6 will work fine.

Thanks.
Andrew.

Afternoon,

Does anyone have any recommendations on email applications that are
Jaws friendly and which are capable of handling an IMAP email account?

I know that Outlook meets both these criteria, but my work email is
using Outlook and for various reasons which I won't go into, I need to keep
work and personal email in separate applications.

Outlook Express appears not to support IMAP accounts, so I'm left
wondering about Eudora or any other program people have used successfully.

Thanks,
Tink.
