We know that with some video cards it is not a problem and you can get away
with it, but others it is not so.

ATI Radeon X550

Ah, this makes sense and I think I read about it in a Tech Support
note on FS's site the other day in which they talked about jaws
getting into a loop about installing the video hook on cards with
  dual displays.

My video card (with an ATI Radion 9250) actually does have a
secondary controller show up in device manager but I have not
experienced any ill-effects thus far. As it is a low-end card, i had
not expected it to provide dual monitor support. i think I go and
disable that secondary controller just in case. this means producing
a conflict in device manager though. Any way to totally get rid off
  that secondary entry?

  Thanks much.
