Many thanks for all the help.
For anyone who is interested, I downloaded Switch Sound Converter, which I
found via Google after prompts from the list. It seems to work well with Jaws
10, and did exactly what I needed it to do.
So now I'm off to the gym with my MP3 music and my Daisy book on my Milestone.
