Hello Dorothy,
It's Phill with two ll's here, your problem with the volume mute lets see if
we can get it working for you, try this press Insert + F11 to access system
tray, press V for volume press enter, press O for open, you will land on
Volume control balance slider, tab past volume higher or lower slider, to
Mute press spacebar to check or uncheck, to check will close down your
sound, to uncheck will give you sound, alt F4 to close down.
This will work on all computers running JAWS.
Hope this helps to get one of your questions out of the way.

Yes that is it. you got the point but there aenot other eyes around. I
know on the main desktop I can always raise Jaws from the dead and
reloading but the laptop I found was a problem Andrew Hodge said whence
was at Uni the students wer always doing it muting their laptops thing is
without a toggle and in home situation alone so easy. I will just have to
be careful One List user suggested I use headphones but no good if no
sound I do not want to have to beg a sighghted neighbour. if I can help
it. Thanks a lot Dorothy. Ps Chris Huby asked for advice on laptops
and I suggested to get one with a knob you can turn on and off manually. I
relied on someone else choosing this Toshiba
