Phil

Many thanks for these suggestions, which I have tried out, but nothing seems
to work. I have sent another message today asking if any intrepid members
would like to try the program and tell me what they think. Thanks also for
your thoughts about colours and how to make JAWS speak the truth.

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Whether you want to bother with the methods below depends upon how
determined you are to use the particular program rather than just finding a
similar one which is more accessible.

Some programs are written without using menus at all and only use graphical
elements on the screen which may not be labelled properly either. You may
be able to use the graphics auto-labeller (JawsKey+control+g) to create a
list of graphical controls. Having pressed JawsKey+control+g, you will hear

Jaws say "Start" and you will need to wait for a while to allow the labeller

to do it's work. At the end of the process Jaws will speak how many
graphics have been labelled. Sometimes, this is zero which won't, of
course, help you at all but, if one or more graphics have been labelled, you

will be able to select them from a list by pressing JawsKey+control+shift+g.

Remember also, that the screen may well change each time you activate an
operation changing the graphical controls and necessitating another
auto-labelling procedure. For example, a start scan graphic may disappear
and a pause and stop scan may become visible.

Attributes of the screen such as colours, font sizes etc. are only
accurately spoken by Jaws using the Jaws or invisible cursors. You are best

using the Jaws cursor i.e. numpad minus and placing the cursor in the area
where you need to know the colours and then pressing JawsKey+5 on the top
row.

As I said at the top of this mail, it might be easier to find a similar
program which is accessible to do the job with less aggravation.

Pressing insert 5 tells you the foreground and background colours. At
present it is saying black on white. I have noticed that a new program I
have downloaded, Registry Easy, seems to have no menus, so I can't work it.
The colours say black on black. I thought this might be the problem, but I
have just been shopping with Tesco, and the colours say black on black on
their site. I can work it very well. As I am totally blind I don't
normally bother about foreground and background colours, but does it make a
difference, and how can you alter them for a specific program?

Also, if a program doesn't show its menus, no menu bar, just the list of
what needs to be repaired, how do I get the menus to appear?
