Hi Hazel, To answer a couple of questions in your mail ... An add-on is a piece of software which can be downloaded and added on to an application such as internet explorer and usually provides capabilities not available in the original application. Not all add-ons are necessary or desirable. It is best to read the details on what the add-on provides before deciding whether you need it. Macros comprise a list of commands which perform a particular function. For example, when you turn on your washing machine and set it to perform a full wash, rinse and spin, it is performing a macro function. Of course, this isn't necessarily a software macro but the same idea pertains. You can set applications like Word to record a macro, run through the actions to perform your task and then save the macro with a name which you can call next time and the job will be performed for you automatically. One word of warning ... Macros can be used by devious people to tamper with your system such as introducing viruses. It is best to set the macro security in applications such as Word to medium or high so that only trusted macros may be run. I hope this is of some use, Phil Medway. ----- Original Message ----- From: Hazel Flannigan To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, November 17, 2005 6:13 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Add-ons! Hi The List! I came accross add-ons for the first time to day. I was trying to connect to the internet when it anounced that there was no links found. I did get some sighted help to disable the add-ons as it silenced my jaws. But now I am wondering if I will need these add-ons in the future. What is a add-on? What is it used for? What is a Macro? and what is a Flash player? Any information will help me understand what is going on with my computer! And why do Add-ons pop up? Best wishes, Hazel. -- This email has been verified as Virus free Virus Protection and more available at http://www.plus.net
