More info on networking an Iyonix to a Vista PC ... It is possible with Vista with Service pack 1 (SP1) loaded on the Vista Home machine. The only files which can be accessed, though, are the Public files on the Vista machine. I now have Uniprint, Uniscan and Remote all working. Bit of a problem loading the Windows link programs (Uniprint and TightVNC) because the Vista machine has no FDD (files can be copied to a memory stick); and the PC does not recognise the VNC install file - I copied the installed directory from a W2K machine. Doesn't seem to mind where the exe files are put, and they can be loaded on start up from the Startup directory. However, the Windows Firewall doesn't like them and queries them (press Ignore). With Samba loaded on the Iyonix, the PC will connect to the Iyonix with a prompt (\\Iyonix - or whatever the Iyonix is called). From the PC side there then seems to be no problem passing files both ways between the two computers. However, from the Iyonix (with Omniclient) it will only pass over quite small files - maybe only <10k. But I have found a work around by using Remote. Just take control of the PC from the Iyonix and drag and drop both ways. The one thing I can't do at the moment is use the printer attached to the PC (Epson Stylus CX3200) directly, by setting up the Iyonix printer connection to a printer share on the PC. At the moment I have in the File box of the !Printers Connection form: Lanman:computername\printername ... Is that the right format? Not sure if it is possible to put the printer file in the PC's Public folders. Hope this helps anyone coping with a similar PC upgrade.
