Hi Tim,

If you're out there in the sticks, you could always use Satellite as
your backup link. In my dreams, I'd be so far away from population
centers that even a 1000 MT device wouldn't send any fallout in my
direction, and I'd use only Satellite. I don't play games, so Satellite
lag wouldn't be an issue, although I would miss hosting my own services.

Just making sure I understood correctly.... I too gave up the T1 I had
when I was living up in Tahoe Donner, and out here (further) in the
sticks, I've now got cable... Fortunately, my cable company supports
what they call a "pro" line which is 2meg down and 1.5 up to their
borders. Pretty consistant, actually. 90$/month though, just for inet.
It's worth it...

Hi Tim,

Exactly. But when we're talking about Cable and DSL lines, the actual
bandwidth realized usually varies significantly from the label on the
can :)

You still get more than the T1 for download, although the full T1 allows
1.5 in both directions, where this solution doesn't. Finally, now that I
think about it, I've never seen a cable line provisioned for more than
128k up.

RC doesn't actually bond the lines, does it?? Isn't it more like the
old
inverse multiplexed algorithm used to bundle lines together to provide a
syntesized single pipe? I mean, don't you really have twice the
capability
at 1.5 than twice the actual bandwidth?
