Just to know if I am not smoking crack, it had to do with the local address
table (LAT) that worked with fwclient, right?

That "PSS tech" was greatly misinformed.
This was true for ISA 2000, but not for ISA 2004.

RDP is working fine from the Terminal Server to the SBS Server now, I had to
re-associate the internal NIC with the RDP connection at one point, but
that's a different issue. First time I've run into it, but apparently there
is an RPC issue (Outlook 2003 uses RPC) between the Terminal Server and the
SBS Server (which has ISA Server on it). This was also my first SBS &
Exchange setup, so I've been stressing on it and a bit grumpy lately from
lack of sleep and heat from the client to "get it done" ;-)
Steve Moffat had it right when he said the "The W2K3 RPC issue with W2k3
SP1"
I believe.
This brings up an interesting point. I was told by one MS tech @ PSS that
internal communications between computers on my internal network and the SBS
Server (with ISA 2004) should not be scanned by the ISA Server, however,
that does not appear to be correct. Live and learn.

Now, I am having a hard time being able to tell what service pack for ISA is
already installed, as the help about does not display an SP1 or SP2. Please

The version # I'm seeing on my installation is 4.0.2163.213. Am trying to
figure out if I can just install the update as indicated by the Microsoft
article, or if I need to install SP1 or SP2 first. From all the traffic
going on about SP2, I'm real hesitant to put that one on, though it should
include the hotfix I need.

If you're asking me. I'd say don't install SP2. There's really not much
benefit for such a small firm. I'd instead focus on getting the server
configured and leave SP2 for later. What known RPC issue? I've got terminal
servers all over the place and have never had an RPC problem.
FYI: addressing your email directly to Dr. Shinder is a sure fire way to
have it ignored by everyone else on the list.

It appears that most of the folks here are too busy to assist newbies like
myself, they've got more important things to talk about like "how to waste
an hour of your life"...good grief...
The message boards don't seem to have many of you advanced folks helping out
much--or maybe just with my basic questions. I guess I get what I paid for.
Maybe it's the SBS thing...I feel like a leper. If it weren't for SBS I
never would have been introduced to ISA Server, though.
Argh, I don't want to rant and alienate the folks here but I'm frustrated
with the lack of responses on basic questions. I've been reading, googling
and experimenting a lot (ISA, SBS, Exchange) some of it sticks, some of it
doesn't. Is there a more appropriate website or board I should use for
beginner questions?

It can be installed remotely, but ou need to be physically there to restart
the server, or have someone do it for you as it stops requests on
completion.

Dr. Thomas,
I was looking to install the upgrade ISA Server 2004 SP2 soon due to an
issue between my Terminal Server (Win2K3 SP1) not communicating with my SBS
Server with regards to Outlook 2003 due to a known RPC issue.
I am a newbie in regards to ISA. And SBS. Though the school of hard knocks
is training me quick ;-)
What is the sequence to delete an existing cache?
Will BITS caching be turned on by default when installing SP2?
What is the sequence to configure BITS caching?
Do you advise installing ISA SP2 in a small network setup (10 -
15 users) ?
I've read a few times here that installing ISA SP2 through terminal services
is not advised. Maybe it is OK if you hook in with the /console switch.
What is your take on this issue?
