I've created a special rule called what else, MessengerUsage
and have only protocols HTTPS, SSL TUNNEL, AND MSN MESSENGER.
This covers ports 443 outbound and 1863 outbound. With only this you
can't send and receive files. Messenger on it's own is an important
medium to talk with others on your team both local and remote.
I did however run tcpdump on messenger sessions and you can see all the
text
sent between two clients. So, if you're sending secure communications
messenger should not be used.

I know this topic was discussed here times ago, but i tried the
solutions provided and i had no luck, i only made to block the sending
of emoticons, but not the files. Here is what I have already block:
- TCP connection (both ways) using the ports 6890 trough 6899
- TCP connection (both ways) using the port 6900 and 6901
- TCP connection (both ways) using port 5190
- TCP connection (both ways) on port 33979
- UDP connection (both ways) in the range 5004-65535
I'm using ISA 2000.
